Watching your DVD's on your PSP:

That's right, Sony have made the PSP a portable movie player as well as a Playstation games console. You're probably aware that you can buy titles on UMD to watch, but did you know that you can transfer your DVD's onto your PSP to watch them wherever you please??

Firstly, you're going to need a lot of storage space to do this. The Memory Stick which the PSP uses to save data comes in many different sizes, and if you're serious about wanting to watch a full movie from a DVD on your console, you should be looking at a 1GB Memory Stick.

They're expensive, you can expect to pay about £120 or more for such a large capacity, but it's worth it if you want to watch movies "on the move". I dare say, for shorter movies, you may get away with a 512mb Memory Stick, but don't forget about space for your saved games too!

Okay, so you've shelled out for a 1GB Memory Stick, you've got your DVD's ready - what now?

Step one: Ripping your DVD

Well firstly, you need to rip your DVD onto your hard drive. You will need to find a program which either rips a DVD directly to an AVI file, or you can chose to rip it to another format, and then use another program to convert it to AVI.

Note, the more times you have to convert a video file, the more space it takes up on your hard drive, the more time it takes, and the worse the overall quality. Try to complete this process in as few steps as possible. Check to make sure you have at least 8GB of free space on your hard drive, as you will need at least this much space!

Step two: Converting your files to the PSP format

Unfortunately, the files you have ripped from your DVD need to be converted before the PSP can play them. You need to Download a suitable converter program which you will find in our PSP Downloads section.
