Weavers Old Boys 1-6 Fisher Athletic 12/11/05
FISHER EASE THROUGH TO NEXT ROUND AGAINST WEAVERS old boys Fisher kept their winning streak going with an impressive win at weavers old boys. With the rush on and Adie not being able to make it until 20 minutes into the game we hardly had enough time to prepare for the game. Adie named an unchanged side from the one that beat Rising sun last week which meant the uninjured Rooney stayed in goal along with his ever so reliable back three of Scrivs, Bash and steady Eddie. Steve was out on the right flank as I occupied the left flank. Sir Bash manned the midfield along with Oags and Scott Davanagh, Jack the lad and Gibby starred up front. Weavers made there intentions known from the off and that was to try an intimidate and try to take advantage of a whistle shy referee, Eddie was caught with a couple of nasty elbows early on. Fisher tried to take a hold of the game early on when excellent work from oags sent me scampering down the left, I managed to keep it in just before it crept out and sent in a curling cross that was cut out for a corner, Gibbys corner was met at the back post but the header was wayward to say the least from big Scrivs. Weavers managed to cause some confusion in our box but it turned out to be a blessing as we showed our counter attacking skills, the weavers left winger cut in to have a pop but Rooney sprung to his left to push the ball onto the upright and Eddie leathered the ball up field, Gibby showed excellent control as he poked the ball wide to jack and he raced in on goal from the wide right position, jack probably could have had a shot but showed great unselfishness and decided to square the ball for the Gibster to power home the first goal and his 15th of the season 0-1. It wasnt long before Fisher had number 2 in the bag, Scott D played a ball over the top for Jack to chase but the defender intercepted but shockingly he miss hit his clearance and it fell to me and I tried to play it onto the head of gibby at the back post but the defender nudged it out for a corner. Gibbys corners have been excellent all season and he once again caused mayhem with a sweeping ball to the back post and Eddie rose totally unmarked to head home number 2(thats not a typing error, Eddie did score again for his third in two matches lol). For the third Oags mugged the striker and despite the player trying to stop oags from advancing into the weavers half it was to late as oags sent jack clearing away from the defender and even though the weavers keeper did his best to deny, jack did just enough to send the ball home for number 3 of the game. By this time the home team where starting to lose it big time and tempers started to fray. H/T 0-3 S/H The second half started in much the same way as the first as tackles flew in all over the place. The Ref showed the weavers keeper a yellow card for dissent early on as the game threatened to turn ugly. Fisher had number 4 in the net about 15 minutes into the half, neat work at the back from bash and Eddie sent me away from my marker as I dodged a clumsy challenge I managed to send in an inviting cross as jack just failed to connect with the ball, but the defenders clearance sent the ball in to the path of Steve on the opposite wing as he showed good control and then whipped in a superb ball for jack to lash home for his second of the game 0-4. There was a slight error at the back from Roondogg as he came speeding out to dive on a 50-50 but it some how evaded his grasp and gifted the striker and open goal to make it 4-1, but for his earlier save that led to us scoring, I am sure we can forgive him. It wasnt to be 4-1 for very long as Steve won a free kick just out side the area from the right, Gibby stepped up and before you could blink whipped a low hard cross to the front post for Scott Davanagh to slide home number 5. Then all hell broke loose and as you can guess, it was me who was at the centre of it, the ball was cleared up hill by Eddie and I chased it right down to the keeper as he picked it up and tried to take the kick I stood in front of him just long enough for him to loose his cool and stud me in the back of the leg in front of the ref and he rightly showed him another yellow followed by the red, this was followed by calls for my head from the right said fred striker who said he was gonna put me in a grave, anyway Adie decided to cool the situation and brought me off for Dado. As I was putting my jumper on something mysterious happened, Young Bash volleyed home number 6, Oags took a quick free kick that deflected into Bashes path and without thinking and someone shouting GET RID he blasted a left footed volley past the stand in keeper. There was more confrontation after the whistle but it was nothing but handbags and glad rags from opposistion and it was back to the Fisher for sausage and chips. Ratings Rooney ..8 Couple of good saves despite his error had an excellent game. Scrivs 6 Not his best performance, probably got one eye on his hearing date. Bash .7 Usual solid display from the ex Corby town youngster and even defied the laws of averages and scored. Eddie .8 Another goal and solid. Steve .7 Usual hard work and chipped in with an assist. Sir Bash .7 Father of young Bash, not his usual best but still a good performance. Oags ..8 A superb display from the midfield maestro. Scott D 9 *MOTM Solid in the engine room throwing tackles, winning headers and spreading the play. Jack 8 Worked really hard and got his 2 goal reward and partnership with gibby really staring to set the blue touch paper a light. Gibby .8 Set piece expert and finished off a good move for his goal. Subs Scott mc 6 Thrown on to sure up defence when switched to back four Dado 4 Not enough time for the youngster to make an impact
Weavers Old Boys Preview (12/11/05)
Team News: Adie Kelly will have the luxury of being able to name an unchanged side against Weavers Old Boys after last weeks demolition of Rising Sun. Scotty Mc will return from his stint in Glasgow to a place on the bench as will ex Corby Town man Stevie Melv who was sunning it up last week.
With Fisher sitting clear a the top of the league with maximum points and Weavers lying in 7th after only taking 8 points from a possible 21, on paper this match looks like it can only go one way, but as we all know, league form goes out the window when it come to the cups.
